As I type this, it’s Sunday afternoon and I’ve just spent the past 3 hours deep cleaning. I have seen dust bunnies bigger than I knew they could get and cleaned out forgotten corners of rooms that held things I had forgotten I ever owned. Yep. It’s been one of THOSE Sundays.
The season of Spring always reminds me of starting anew. It’s a time to take extra care of yourself, making sure you’re happy, healthy and achieving goals in the lifestyle that you want. Because it’s a buffer between Summer and Winter, I feel like Spring is a great time to make sure you’re at your happiest before the big season of sun-drenched adventures and windswept beach barbeques arrives.
Because self-preservation is so important, today I wanted to share five ways that you can make sure you’re living the life you want and essentially give yourself the pampering you deserve.
Look At Your Living Space
Whether you’re reorganising your bedroom, your apartment or your entire house – Spring is a great time to take some extra care and consideration in the general flow of your home. You spend so much time in this environment – whether you’re eating, sleeping, or generally recharging after a busy day, so you want to make sure you’re optimising your space to give you everything you desire.
Whether you want to bring plant life into the room or switch up how your furniture is laid out – I can’t recommend enough how a change of pace can switch up your entire perspective. If you’ve been holding off on buying certain pieces of decor that you’ve always wanted, now is a great time to splurge and make your living space the place you’ve always dreamt of.
Use Your Time Wisely
With the longer days, Spring is a fantastic time to take on new hobbies and skills that you may have been putting off due to the busy-ness or fatigue of the Winter months. Whether you want to start reading more, learn how to cook or spend some time in the garden – Spring is a great season to invest time in doing activities that make you happy.
You can grow your own herbs, fruit or vegetables to make fresher meals. Start reading your way through the classics (or new releases) that you’ve always wanted to get to. Begin baking and cooking for a more homely, balanced lifestyle. With the extra hours of sunlight that the change in the clocks gives us, Spring is a great time to invest in doing things that will make you happy.
Prioritise Your Skin Care
From the colder, harsher months of Winter to the warmer, fresher ones of Spring – the change in weather can be difficult for your skin to adjust to. Personally, when my skin is feeling or looking out of sorts, it always leads to me feeling generally unmotivated too. So take the time to figure out your skin type – whether it’s dry, oily or combination (I’m the lucky fella that rolled the ‘combination’ dice!) – and find products that work/help it adjust to all the different weather you’ll be facing throughout this season.
Finding products that make you feel great can make all the difference, whether you’re looking to up your daily routine, grab a fantastic new self-tanner or find a face mask that can manage all of those clogged pores that seem to come back faster than they ever go (insert angry face here), you need to make sure that you’re prioritising your skin and it’s health! Get Your Sweat On
Whenever I’m feeling in a funk, my natural response is always to get my running shoes on and either go for a jog or head to the gym. Getting out there and working your body has to be one of the most gratifying experiences there is, and the rush of hormones after a workout will get you on a natural high that’ll last for hours.
Whether you’re looking to switch up your exercise routine, or simply start one, Spring is a great season to get outdoors – since you don’t even need a gym membership when the world can be your exercise playground!
Another great habit to pick up during Spring is meditation. Take time to yourself, focussing solely on breathing and see what it does for you. The app HeadSpace is a great introduction to meditation, I’ve used it for a few years now – and although I don’t meditate as much as I’d like (guilty), I know that it’s always there if I need to take 5 minutes to myself. Meditation will always have me leaving in a completely different mood than I started it in!
Change Your Scenery
I’m not talking an international escapade here (though why not?) but a great way to bring a new perspective to your season can be through travel. Take a bus to a new town for the day, spend the weekend in a bustling city or invest a week at a resort in the wilderness. Just change up your scenery, whether that’s for simple day trips or something larger and further – it’ll guarantee you not only a change of pace but a new lease on life and a look at something you’ve probably been thinking about doing for ages.

Taking time and exploring the city, state or country you live in is invigorating and exciting. You’ll find things you’d never thought of, and may quite possibly stumble across somewhere you’ll fall in love with, and find yourself returning to again and again.
