Five Things to Love About Summer

June is here! It feels like the last three months have gone by in a landslide and I’m so excited that we’re at the beginning of summer!

Last year I started a series for this year about five things to love about each season: starting with Winter, followed by Spring – and now Summer! Each individual season holds such exciting events and activities which is awesome. What’s your favourite season? Mine has to be Autumn!

#1 Road Trips

The traditional summer activity – road tripping.

This past year, I’ve been lucky enough to fly to a few different countries around Europe (with more coming up later on!) but one thing I’ve been aware of is that I’ve neglected actually exploring England.

For my job I spend a lot of time driving around the country for shoots, but spending a long weekend in different cities and towns across England is something that I’m dying to do, and hopefully will get round to, this season.

Exploring your own backyard is something that a lot of people neglect – especially through the eyes of a tourist. We never appreciate the things that we’ve naturally grown up close to, but Summer is a great time to mark out a weekend and explore your hometown area as though you were visiting from another country!

#2 The Weather

The Summer sun in England is another of my favourite things about the season. The warm weather, the bright blue sky days – it’s so refreshing and uplifting to wake up with the sun going strong and a long day stretched out in front of you.

It leaves you open to feel like you can accomplish so much more during your day too – instead of the sun setting at 4 p.m., you have hours and hours longer of bright sunlight (which is awesome for bloggers like me who get to take advantage of the longer evenings for photoshoots!)

#3 The Food

Nothing screams Summer like iced treats. Iced coffee, ice cream (and non-dairy ice cream! I’m absolutely in love with this ‘healthy alternative’ to ice cream called Frill. It’s seriously amazing, I promise you! Their chocolate flavour tastes just like ganache!) and any other iced goodies I can get my hands on.

The summer months are all about lighter, fresher foods – instead of the chunkier comfort foods of Autumn or Winter, it’s all fresh sandwiches and fruit – salads and ice cream! Do you have a favourite summer snack!?

#4 The Clothes

There’s nothing I love more than being able to wear shorts, a baggy tee and feeling the warm breeze on my skin. Gone are the days of cold winds and huge parkas (hopefully) and in are the days of summer heat and sunscreen!

Fashion during summer tends to get a lot brighter, too, with more vibrant colours coming out the closet and a lot more people wearing whiter shades. It’s a season of brightness and sunshine and I absolutely love it!

#5 Evening Adventures

With the longer evenings stretched out in front of you, there’s nothing quite like an impromptu summer adventure. You can set off at 5 p.m. with no worries of trudging home in the darkness since the sun doesn’t set in England till well past 10 p.m. during Summer!

Whether you’re exploring your city, going to another – or simply hanging out with your best friends, there’s no end to the brilliant and inventive adventures you can get up to during the golden Summer evenings.

Do you have a favourite season? I’d love to hear about it! If you’re interested in reading my favourite things about Winter or Spring, you can check them out right here.
