In the months leading up to visiting Paris, a private city tour company called LocalGuddy reached out to me. They haven’t requested this post, and I’m not receiving any money or anything for writing it – simply, they reached out inquiring if I’d be interested in trialling one of their city tours, and after going on it, it was such a great experience that I couldn’t resist writing a blog post all about my time with them.
One of my favourite things about the city of Paris is the rich history. Just ten steps from any metro station you’ll be able to feel it – that sense of time, presence and undeniable experience. So much has happened there and the sheer amount of meaning behind each and every brick laid runs the risk of being forgotten if we aren’t appreciating and honouring them through learning about where they all came from.
The tour we chose took us back to the very first street in the city, being shown where Paris sprouted its humble roots and venturing along the path of how it grew to the Paris that we know today. We were guided by a man named Lucien, who was warm, bubbly and knowledgeable – sharing tips and tales behind things you wouldn’t even know had history behind them.

I used to be quite intimidated by the idea of city tours – especially when the stereotypical image conjured up is fighting your way through a group of 30 or so people to hear 1 person with a megaphone of sorts giving vital information that you’ve probably already missed.
This, however, was completely different. LocalGuddy appears to run tours on a private basis, where you state the size of your party – and they tailor not only the tour but the tour guide and the best time to explore this area, for you.
Under the midday sun we explored hidden gardens, winding city paths and secret viewpoints, all while being told stories from centuries ago. The entire experience has left me itching to go on another tour, and learn even more about the beautiful city. The only question is which to choose?
I couldn’t recommend LocalGuddy enough, especially considering they were in constant contact with me when I was arranging and rearranging dates, figuring out times and even tailoring specific tours to our own interests and ideas. It’s fun and it’s flexible, which is just what you want when running around a city, hopping off metros and gasping at incredible sights, isn’t it? Head on over to their site and see what tours await in cities near you!
