I’m going to try everything in my power to stop myself from talking about how fast this year is going (or that I started this series in January and can’t believe we’re already in May), and instead talk about how much of a wonderful month May has been. It seems like the heavens opened the last 30 days, because May was nothing but sunshine and warm temperatures here in Northern England. Because of all the good weather, I feel like I was able to experiment with so many things to find products, skincare items and generally things that I love and have ended up using again and again.
Also, quick side note, but you may be wondering what a photo of me jogging the shore of a beach has to do with my May favourites… And, quite simply, it’s because I had not DREAMED the weather of Northern England would give me the opportunity to do something like that this early in the year. And I’m SO EXCITED that I was able to. Honestly, catch me at the beach asap because that’s where I’ll be every day we’re graced with such wonderful weather!
During the month of May, I feel like I’ve focussed inwardly a lot. I’ll end up talking about this with one of my creator crushes, but this month was definitely one based on self improvement. For so long that I’ve been running MIMG, I feel like I’ve been avoiding statistics and numbers and algorithms and all of that information because I’ve been scared of really putting in the extra time for growth, but during May (and because of a certain creator that I’ve been obsessed with), I did a total 180 on that and have been facing all of those things head on. Because of this, I feel like I’ve really been able to focus on where I love this blog the most, and plan out strategies and ideas for the future that I’m so excited for I can barely contain it.
My Favourite Products of the Month
Fjallraven Kanken Classic Backpack in Forest Green
If you’ve been following me on social media, you probably have seen that I picked up one of these bags towards the end of April and fell in love with it.
Along with the classic design, I love how much I can fit in my Kanken. It’s so spacious, and comfortable to wear – and because the bag is climate controlled, I’m finding that everything that I put inside it doesn’t overheat (which is perfect for the fact that I always have chapstick in there and we’re quickly approaching Summer!)
Hangsun SC200 Facial Cleansing Brush
Since getting into my skincare, I decided to bite the bullet and see what all the fuss with cleansing brushes was about. I’d love to pick up a Clarisonic, but for the price and the fact this was my first time trying them, I didn’t think it was worth the investment.
This Hangsun cleansing brush turned out to be incredible. I use it before applying cleanser, and then to help massage it into my skin and it feels amazing! For the price of £50 it’s like having a little facial massage every night and quite honestly I’m in love. I’m so happy I checked this one out!
Fibre One 90 Calorie Brownies
Okay, this one might be a little weird. But you guys know how much of a sweet tooth I have, and also how hard I’m trying to slim down a little bit before heading to California in September. And usually, when I’m trying “health” bars, I find that none of them (really) replicate what chocolate/good sweets taste like. Until these guys.
If any of you are from England, these taste just like Mr Kipling cake bars. They’re moist, delicious and moreish – with a bunch of flavours to match, too. What’s even better is each bar is only 90 calories, so if you’re snacking on one or two per day, it’s really not that bad! I am so excited about these.
Foursquare City Guide
When I got my very first smartphone (when I was 15) I LOVED Foursquare. The app was completely different, and was more like the ‘check yourself in’ feature that Facebook has now. I would go around and check in absolutely everywhere and anywhere that I was (which in hindsight probably wasn’t the best idea!) then, like everything, I just stopped using it.
Flash forward to now, and the app itself has changed completely. Now it’s like some sort of fresh Trip Advisor and I LOVE it. Especially for finding restaurants or things to do and reading reviews. It’s so handy and helpful, I can’t recommend that you guys pick it up and see what you make of it, too!
My Monthly Creator Crushes
You guys will have seen above where I talked about how this month I’ve been focussing a lot more on my brand, blog and content. It is 100% down to Jenna. This past month, I stumbled across her incredible Goal Digger Podcast and BOY have I missed bingeing something so good in so long.
The entire podcast is so inspiring and motivational, and although I’ve followed Jenna for a while – this podcast gave me a new lease on life in times of content creation and how I perceive my online space. I can’t recommend enough that you guys check out her blog, her podcast and her Instagram because all three are incredible and definitely worthy of ALL the follows.
FAREWELL TRAVEL CO
If you guys have checked out my Pinterest, you’ll know that I’m a sucker for wanderlust. In fact, I have a whole board dedicated to the stuff. When I saw Lauren Taylor (who is also amazing and I gushed about last month which you can check out here) talk about these guys on Instagram Stories, I knew I had to check them out – and their stuff is absolutely beautiful!
If you look at their site, you’ll fall in love instantly. And their Instagram is just as beautiful, too. I can’t wait for them to launch next month so that I can binge all of their content tbh because I’m sure that I’ll be booking a LOT of trips based off their beautiful photos and great recommendations!
