I know, I know. It’s only the first week of August and the Autumn posts have already started. I don’t know about you guys, but I always try to buy my season staples a few months early (or even directly after that season has ended, in the end of season sales!), and I thought I’d give you all a heads up for some wardrobe essentials that are on sale for you to stock up on right now.
I always love the look of my wardrobe during Autumn: the pieces for layering and wrapping up for chillier days and darker nights. There’s a lot of earth tones through the next few months, with some accents of lighter neutrals like grey to play around with. I’d love to know what your favourite Autumn wardrobe essentials are: I think mine are either a nice coat, a great hat or a good pair of boots.
I’ve broken this post into sections based on the essential: from accessories (hats, scarves, gloves) to coats, shirts (flannel and lightweight), sweaters (lightweight and knitted), pants and shoes. Happy shopping!
WARDROBE ESSENTIAL #1
From hats to scarves, wrapping up with extra cosy accessories are always encouraged through the Autumn months. Whether you’re out on the daily commute, spending a weekend among pumpkin fields or evenings out with friends, wrapping up to stay warm is extra important this time of year so I’ve tried to incorporate some great choices for it.
I’ve stayed close to the earthy tones, with a lot of browns, dark greens and beige pieces. As well as some more neutral basics that can tie an entire outfit together,
WARDROBE ESSENTIAL #2
With the colder weather creeping in, we’ll be heading straight into the coat closet for our Autumn wardrobe essentials. From thicker pieces like top coats and wool blends, to lighter puffer jackets and denim throw ons, there’s a lot of room to play around with textures and colours for this season.
One of my favourite essentials of the season, I love mixing coats with my layers and playing with looks that way. My favourite coats have to be either top coats or trench, but I’ve included a good mix in this selection.
WARDROBE ESSENTIAL #3
Guys, I love sweaters. I’m throwing that one out there. I love sweaters of all sorts of blends, from thicker to thinner and all sorts of colours. From thicker cable knits to thinner pieces you can layer with a shirt collar, there are so many choices for Autumn sweaters and I had to resist not adding a hundred pieces to this list.
My favourite style of sweater has to be oversized. Because I’m quite small, I like rolling the sleeves and giving a slouchy effortless look for the Autumn months. Perfect for any activity you could be getting up to!
WARDROBE ESSENTIAL #4
I don’t know about you, but the first thing I imagine when thinking about Autumn (other than pumpkins and all things pumpkin spiced) are flannel shirts. All the plaid patterns and colours are perfect Autumn wear, and whether you’re wearing thicker flannel pieces or thinner cotton shirts, there’s a bunch of ways to style them.
You can layer them open with a t-shirt underneath, or have the collar peeking out of a thin sweater. There’s a bunch of functionality and wearability out of what is quite a basic Autumn wardrobe essential.
WARDROBE ESSENTIAL #5
Autumn is a great excuse to play around with different colours and textures for your pants. Whether you’re going for dyed denim, chinos or an alternative. It’s also a great season to bring a more rugged look to your wardrobe with distressed pieces you might not usually wear.
If you follow me, you’ll know that I love wearing distressed denim – although usually of a lighter wash. Autumn months are a great time to bring out your darker washes and to really play around with the fit and styling of each piece.
WARDROBE ESSENTIAL #6
Another wardrobe essential favourite of mine: footwear. I love bringing out my boots during the Autumn months, from Chelsea boots to Timberland pieces. Autumn is a great time to swap your outfits up from trainers and converse to something a little more rugged and interesting when paired.
You can also really play around with the shades of shoes that you have – whether they’re earthy, neutral or bold.
And there we have it. These are all the wardrobe essentials that I think you should be stocking up on in time for Autumn. I’d love to know your favourite wardrobe styles to rock during the Autumn months, and what pieces you’re most excited to bring out of your wardrobe! I can’t resist a good sweater, and I love playing around with all different thickness and textures of them for my outfits.
Are you excited for the start of Autumn?
