I love empties. Empties hauls, reviews, videos – anything. Actually showing products that people have loved and used, instead of things that they’ve just begun to love. *Ala me with the Fresh Beauty soy cleanser*. When I first started using The Ordinary’s glycolic acid toner, I knew we were a match made in heaven.
I won’t lie, what drew me to The Ordinary initially was their price point. I had little to no knowledge on skincare, and they have a plethora of products for under £10 each – perfect for any beginner to play around with.
When I started using the glycolic acid toner, I was the rookiest of skincare rookies. I barely moisturised: let alone cleansed, toned and moisturised. The only thing I had on lock was my use of SPF, and that’s more because I’m super pale rather than for preventative measures.
Immediately, I fell in love with how to-the-point their directions of use are on the back of the products. They list what to and not to use the product with, what you can expect from first use and what to follow them with.
The Benefits of a Glycolic Acid Toner
You may have heard of chemical exfoliants, which is what this toner is. It’s on the gentler side, as you should never use a harsh exfoliant more than once per week, let alone once per day. In this product, the glycolic acid helps to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells, to aid your complexion and regeneration of brighter, fresher skin.
Glycolic acid is also used to treat scarring, and premature signs of ageing (including fine lines and wrinkles). You can read more about the advantages of using glycolic acid products here.
This toner can be used once per day, and I use it just before bed. I tip a little bit onto a cotton pad, and massage it across my face. I will say that I like the little tingle that it leaves on my face, which I assume is due to the AHA. Once I’ve let it sink in, I follow with the serums that I use at night.
Over time, my skin feels softer, looks brighter and is noticeably tighter. I can genuinely say that it’s one of my favourite products that I’ve ever used.
I have already purchased multiple bottles of this toner, and although it takes me a while to get through one, I know it’s one of the main staples of my skincare routine.
