Today’s post is coming a bit later than usual. In the past, my Year in Review posts have been the first of the year: but for this year, I wanted a little bit of extra time to think about what I wanted to say. 2019 was a great year, one of my favourites in fact. It was a year of change, growth and exploration. It was the first year that I took major steps in my personal life, and where I’ve felt most relaxed in my professional life. All of which I’ll be covering below.
Changes in My Personal Life
If you read my 2018 Year in Review, you might know that during March of 2018 Scott and I reserved our first piece of property to purchase. Back then, it was an apartment we were buying: which, over the 15 months that followed, slowly became a home instead that we lovingly call the Streamside Townhouse. You can read more about our buying journey here, just know that it was one filled with a lot of ups and downs. Including choppier waters than I thought we would have to navigate on the journey to our first home together.
Since moving in together in June, life has been a dream. This was an event that Scott and I had been excitedly planning for years. We always wanted to live together, but we had agreed early on that we didn’t want to rent property, and were lucky enough to be able save and purchase, instead.
As you can imagine, the remainder of the year was spent buying and customising the house (of which we are still nowhere near done!). This one task has consumed a lot of my life, and although it has been emotionally and physically taxing, it has been one of my favourite things because it reflects Scott and I so well. Picking furniture and designs with the one you love is so fun, and personalising a space to both our tastes has been fantastic so far. You can keep up with our house journey on my Home and Interiors category.
I especially enjoyed decorating for Autumn, and then again for Christmas. Although all our decorations are down now (you can see sneak peeks in my “Winter” highlight on Instagram!), it was such a fun season of festivity that I can’t wait to recreate this year.
Changes in My Professional Life
You might remember me covering my move from agency to education in my last year in review, and since then I have had such a fun year. Although I have been quite complacent, there’s been a lot of settling and enjoying what my job offers me through the past year. I’m really excited to see what 2020 has in store, and to allow myself space to stretch out and grow both in this role, and in my side hustle with this blog through the next 12 months.
Something I’m really excited to do is to commit myself to Mile in My Glasses again. Until last Summer, I had posted thrice weekly for two years, and once Scott and I made the move, I ended up falling off the wagon in a big way. Although house moving and decorating is stressful, one big intention of mine for this year is to reset my routine and dedicate the necessary time to this incredible community that I love so much online.
I would love to hear how your 2019 went for you, if you’d like to leave any comments below. Also, I’d love to hear of your intentions for the next 12 months as well. Are you moving the needle in your business, or do you have any personal milestones that you’re excited to celebrate and enjoy this year? Finally, is there any content or particular posts you’d like to see on the blog this year? If so, please let me know – I’d love to contribute!
